Simple Valentine's Day Decorating

Via Curly Birds
I am always amazed at the people who transform their home for every holiday.  They have holiday sheets for the beds and throw pillows for the sofa.  They get out the holiday towels and special dishes.  Even if I had the ambition to attempt such an undertaking, I think the guilt of storing all those hardly ever used items would eat me alive.  I also don't think my husband would keep dragging the stuff up and down the stairs and there is no way I'm going into the creepy basement to get it.  So here is how I like to decorate for Valentine's day.

A paper heart garland is an easy way to dress up a doorway or mantel and all you need is basic supplies you already have around the house.  If you don't have red paper, you can use plain white paper or even newspaper.

These felted hearts from West Elm would look lovely hanging from a doorknob or hook and could be used as a Christmas tree ornament also.

Fill an empty picture frame with some love inspired artwork.  There's plenty for sale online or get creative and make your own.

Fill glass vases or jars with red, pink and white candy or you can make a cute label like this one.

These little felt hearts are so cute just sitting on a table, but could be used year round.  Slip one in your child's backpack when they need a little extra love or have them carry one in their pocket when they're feeling anxious.

Other Ideas:
-Write a love note on a mirror with a dry erase marker.
-Use game pieces, a child's blocks, flashcards, fridge magnets, etc to spell out love messages. (XOXO, B+K, Hugs, Be Mine)
-Use red garland or beads that you already have for Christmas.
-Buy yourself some flowers BEFORE Valentine's day and enjoy them!
